Frequently asked questions

How Resid works, for photographers, videographers, and the companies they license to.

The basics
What is Resid?
Resid is a tool for real estate and architectural photographers and videographers to license their work, photographs and film alike. You add an address and Resid finds who to license that property's photographs or film to by itself, then prices each license, sends outreach in your voice, collects payment, and delivers the files, all in one place.
Does Resid work for video?
Yes. Film is licensed the same way as photographs, with its own pricing and usage terms. The license is priced per finished film, plus any extra fee you set on a cut, and the film is released as a high-quality MP4 on payment. A company can also watch the cuts in a gallery first and select the ones it needs.
How does a license actually happen?
Resid finds the companies that worked on the property and prices a license for each. You send each one the pitch from your own Gmail, with a private license page where they pay by card, and the files and the agreement are released on payment. Or send a gallery and quote what they select: the photographs they choose, or the cuts of the film they need.
What does the client see after they pay?
A client portal: the files, the agreement, and every license they hold with you. Resid emails it after the first payment. A later quote you send them appears there. When a license is up, they can renew from that page or from the renewal email.
Do companies license everything?
No. They license only what they choose: the specific photographs they select, or the cuts they need. The gallery or review link is for choosing. Only what they license is delivered.
What if I find my work already in use?
Log it as a sighting. Paste the link, say who is using it and what they used, and Resid prices that use, drafts the note, and tracks it from logged to paid. The license covers the time the work was already up, so paying it settles the past as well as the future. You do not need to have added the property first.
Can Resid find where my photos are being used?
On Pro, yes. From a property's page, Resid checks the web for that gallery's photos and sorts every page it finds against the property's roster: a company that licensed, a company that did not, the listing side, publications, and pages it cannot place. Only a page carrying your exact photo counts as a finding; one that merely looks like the house is set aside as a lookalike. Resid never contacts anyone on its own; you decide what to do with each page.
Pricing and payment
What does Resid cost?
Pay as you go is $0 a month with no card, and Resid keeps 15% of a license only when it is paid. Pro is $79 a month and cuts that share to 5%. New accounts start with 14 days of Pro, free, with no card.
How is the price set?
You set it, using Resid's calculator, based on what they license (the number of photographs, or the film) and how the company plans to use it. Every quote is per company.
How are payments handled?
Payments run through Stripe and are paid out to your connected account. Resid never stores card details.
Email and your data
How does Resid send email?
From your own Gmail, on your behalf, so replies land in your inbox and it reads as you. If Gmail is not connected, the same draft opens in your mail app. When a company publishes only a contact page, Resid copies the message and opens their form. And when email goes quiet, it drafts an Instagram message and a text you can send by hand. You approve every message before it sends.
Can Resid read my email?
No. Resid requests only permission to send on your behalf. It cannot read, search, or store the contents of your mailbox, and your authorization is encrypted and revocable at any time. See our Privacy Policy.
Is my data secure?
We take reasonable measures to protect it, including encrypting sensitive credentials at rest. We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Can I take my client list with me?
Yes. On Companies or People, open Import or export and choose Export as CSV. It downloads every company and contact we hold for you, with the properties they are on and what they have paid. It works on every plan, including a paused one, and Import clients in the same menu brings a list in.
Agreements
Does Resid provide the license agreement?
Resid can generate a license agreement template as a convenience, but it is not legal advice. Have your agreements reviewed by your own attorney before relying on them. See our Terms.
